Since our last major news, we've been getting all our ducks in a row and are pleased to announce our schedule for the upcoming move. And we also open up a request to anyone who can volunteer to help us make the transition. Read the press release below from the directors for more information.
Here at the Manna House the excitement is growing as we are now in a position to tell you of our plans for the move to No 39 St Giles Street. It has been decided that we will close the current Shop on Friday 22nd April at 5.30pm and then open in the new premises on Tuesday 26th at 9.30am.
We have already had some generous offers of help, but we are aware that there is a huge amount of work to do not only in setting up the new Shop but also in closing down the old.
Help is needed from 9.00am on Saturday 23rd through until Saturday 30th April. If you are able to help with the following tasks please ring us on 01604 622666 and let us know. We need an army of LUGGERS and SHIFTERS and DIY people. Luggers and shifters to physically move the stock from one location to the other and DIY personnel to make good, tidy and clean up in the old building – a big task ! We are bound to hand over the old building to the new owner by 30th April.
As you are aware, we sold the Manna House building in October 2015 having been based there for 32 years and we have used the property for many expressions of outreach. 39 St Giles Street, is a smaller unit between Lawrence’s Coffee House and Bonds Jewellers and is directly opposite the top of Castilian Street. In view of the move there are some bargins to be had, for example, some cards at 5p and some books at 99p ! We hope this move will coincide with the completion of the first phase re-development and modernisation of St Giles Street currently being undertaken by the Borough Council.
We believe that the move will increase footfall and make us more accessible. We are allowing three years to re-establish the Shop, grow the business and build customer base that will make it viable in its support of our counselling service. If the Shop is unable to meet its commitments after the three years, then it is very likely that it will be closed and we will loose the witness and presence on the High Street. As stated before, the Trustees clearly see this venture as mission and an important outreach into the community.
Please pray that all the final details will fall into place. Pray too that the financial challenges will be met.
- Vic Winchcombe, Chair
- John Nightingale, Director
So if you can offer any help during our move, whether it is loading and unloading stock, driving a couple of loads down the road, or filling and painting in the old shop, call the shop on 01604 622 666 during opening hours (9:30am-5:30pm Monday-Saturday) to let us know when and how you can help.
Even if you can't help with the move, you can pray that we have a quick and safe move, and pray that our move will be a renewal of our mission to last for many more years to come.
Finally, as always, your ongoing custom and support will help us continue our mission as a resource to the church and a witness on the high street. Remember we will be open for business up to and including Friday 22nd April, and will be open again at 39 St Giles Street as soon as we are able after our move.
Thanks for all your support and prayers!
